City Reaches Employment Agreement with New Administrator

Ryan WheatonThe City of Shelton has reached an employment agreement with its new administrator, Ryan Wheaton. Wheaton signed the agreement after Monday’s City Commission meeting.

Under the terms of the agreement, Wheaton will begin working for the City on August 8, 2016. His salary for the first six months is $9,536 per month. After six months, Wheaton will be paid $10,038 per month. He is also entitled to benefits “commensurate with other department head level employees” and has annual leave of 10 days.

The agreement includes three months of rental assistance at $1500 a month if the Wheaton’s are unable to sell their home in Pierce County. Wheaton is also entitled to reimbursement for moving expenses, not to exceed $4,500. And he is required to live in the City Limits of Shelton within 18 months of his employment.

Ryan Wheaton is a Shelton native and comes to the City from Pierce Transit where he has been the Specialized Transportation Manager since 2014. Prior to that, Wheaton was Program Coordinator for the Steilacoom School District in Washington for three years, Research Analyst at the University of Nebraska, and early in his career he was a high school teacher in Denver, Colorado, for three years. Mr. Wheaton has a bachelor’s degree in Political Science from Colorado State University, a master’s degree in Education from the University of Northern Colorado, and a MBA from Pacific Lutheran University in Washington.
