Knowing the best food choices in the grocery store and understanding their ingredients is essential to maintaining a healthy diet for those managing diabetes. The topic of discussion at Mason General Hospital & Family of Clinics’ next Shelton Diabetes Support Group meeting is “Becoming Supermarket Savvy!” and will be the last one of the season on Thursday, June, 16, 2016 from 1 to 2 p.m. in the Pershing Meeting Room at Mason General Hospital. “Becoming Supermarket Savvy!” is also the topic of discussion at Mason General Hospital & Family of Clinics’ next Allyn Diabetes Support Group meeting which will be the last one of the season on Thursday, June 23, 2016 from 1 to 2 p.m. in the Port of Allyn building’s downstairs meeting room.
Presenting the class will be Joyce Horton, R.D., and Sarah Fulkerson, R.D., C.D.E., of MGH&FC’s Diabetes Wellness Program. In a fun and interactive way, participants will be taken on a “virtual” grocery store tour that takes the mystery out of packaged foods, examines types of cooking oils, and provides tips on how to make the best food choices. Family members/significant others are also invited, for the support they provide – and also for their own health benefit!
The Shelton Diabetes Support Group, affiliated with the American Diabetes Association, meets at MGH every third Thursday of the month from September to June.
