The following are results from high school sports played on Wednesday, April 20, 2016:
The Shelton softball team needed eight innings to beat North Thurston 7 to 6. The Highclimbers had a 5 to 2 lead after three innings but the Rams scored a run in the fourth and two runs in the sixth to force the extra inning. NT took the lead in the the top of the eighth before Shelton won the game in their half of the extra frame. Natalie Albaugh got the win for the Lady ‘Climbers. Shelton was led by Lindsey Corey who went 4 for 5 at the plate with two doubles, three RBI, and three runs scored. Loretta LaClair was 2 for 5 with a double and two RBI. The Highclimbers improve to 9-and-1 on the season 7-and-1 in the Narrows League, sitting in second place in the standings. They travel to Capital Friday before they have a show down against the only team to beat them this season, Central Kitsap, at home on Monday.
The Shelton baseball team scored four runs in the third inning and beat Foss 6 to 2. With the win, the Highclimbers sweep the season series with the Falcons and now have a two-game winning streak. Shelton is now 5-and-10 on the season, 2-and-8 in the Narrows League. They have a non-league game at Kennedy Christian Saturday.
In track and Field, the Shelton boys finished second behind Capital while the Lady Highclimbers were third. The boys’ scores were Capital 99, Shelton 57.5 and Mt. Tahoma 18.5. The girls’ scores were the Cougars 104.5, the T-Birds 55 and the ‘Climbers 22.5.
Top Shelton performers: Lindsey Goldsby won the 800 and was 3rd in the 100; Alex Brown-Garcia took the 300 hurdles, was 2nd in the 110 hurdles and tied for 3rd in the 200; Mike Husky was 1st in the shot put and the discus; Cody Hall won the javelin; Cody Simon took the pole vault; Troy Krumpols took the triple jump and placed 3rd in the high jump; Anika Davison finished 2nd in the pole vault; William Johnson placed 2nd in the 800; Joshua Dohring was 2nd in the discus; Katelyn Miller finished 2nd in the high jump; Rian Wakeling placed 2nd in the 300 hurdles and was 3rd in the 110 hurdles; Kaitlyn Paller placed 2nd in the shot put and 3rd in the javelin; Drake Adams finished 3rd in the 400; Alysia Rosback was 3rd in the long jump.
The next meet is the Shelton Invite on April 30th.
The North Mason softball team lost at Olympic 9 to 1. The Lady Bulldogs are now 9-and-10 on the season, 0-and-7 in the Olympic League. The girls from Belfair host Port Angeles Monday.
