The following are results from high school sports played on Wednesday, April 13, 2016:
The Shelton softball team took care of Foss in five innings 15 to 5 and now leads the Narrows League standings with a 5-and-1 record. The Lady Highclimbers built a 10-0 lead in the first three innings scoring four runs in the first with two out; three runs in the second – two of them with two out; and three runs in the third which included a lead off home run by Aurora Gouley and Alyssa Jorgenson hitting a fly ball to the center field fence and beating the throw home for an inside the park home run. The Falcons got all their runs in the fourth off reliever Taylor Hitsman before Shelton took advantage of a walk and back to back hit batters in the fifth. Elena Prest led off the inning with a walk and the next two batters, Gouley and Lindsey Corey, were hit by pitches to load the bases. Natalie Albaugh then drove in Prest and Gouley. Loretta LaClair followed, driving in Corey and Albaugh. Hitsman ended the game with and RBI single to drive in LaClair.
Highclimber hitting highlights:
Hallee Garrick went 2 for 2 at the plate with four RBI
Alyssa Jorgenson was 2 for 2 with three RBI and that inside the park home run
Loretta LaClair went 2 for 4 with two RBI and a run scored
Natalie Albaugh was 2 for 4 with two RBI and 3 runs scored
Aurora Gouley went 2 for 4 with a home run, a triple and 2 runs scored
Lindsey Corey was 1 for 4 with a double and an RBI
Shelton takes its 6-and-1 overall record to Silverdale Friday for a non-league game against Olympic.
The Shelton baseball team lost to North Thurston 8 to 7 in nine innings. Each time the Highclimbers would score, the Rams would answer. Shelton scored a run in the second; NT tied it. The ‘Climbers added two runs in the third. The Rams took the lead with one run in their half of the third and two runs in the fourth. Shelton responded with four runs in the fifth and took a 7-4 lead into the bottom of the seventh before North Thurston forced extra innings. After a scoreless eighth, the Rams won it in the bottom of the ninth. The Highclimbers were led by Kacee Snyder who went 1 for 2 at the plate, batted in two runs and scored two runs. Brent Smotherman was 1 for 4 with an RBI and a run scored. Shelton dropped to 3-and-9 on the season and has yet to win in the Narrows League. They travel to Port Angeles Saturday.
