Carbon WA Responds to PUD 3 Action on I-732

Carbon Washington, the backers of Initiative 732, the Carbon Pollution Tax Act, has sent the following response to Tuesday’s action by the Mason County PUD 3 Board of Commissioners to oppose the measure that will be on the November 8th General Election Ballot.

It is unfortunate that the Mason County PUD 3 Board of Commissioners voted against supporting Initiative 732. The Washington Public Utility Districts should be in favor of a carbon tax because they are already leaders in clean energy. I-732 further accelerates the switch to affordable clean energy like solar and wind – energy we produce right here in our local communities. The initiative is also designed to reduce taxes for Washington families and businesses by lowering the state sales tax by one point, virtually eliminating business taxes for manufacturers, and providing tax rebates for working families. We all have a moral responsibility to our children and future generations to protect them. That means tackling climate change now, and leaving them a cleaner, healthier, safer world. We hope that the PUD will change course and make protecting the climate a priority. Please visit to learn more about Initiative 732.
