Punishing Windstorm Cuts Power for Nearly 1,300 – Mason PUD 3 Restores Electricity

phillips lake 02Mason PUD 3 worked throughout Sunday afternoon and evening to restore electricity to nearly 1,300 customers who lost power during the weekend’s potent windstorm.
From about 1:00 PM through 6:00 PM winds buffeted Mason County, the strongest gusts hit 46 miles per hour at Sanderson Field near Shelton. Wind gusts of just over 40 miles per hour were recorded in the Belfair area.

belfair-tahuya-road-webLake Cushman (600 customers) and the west Tahuya Peninsula (550 customers) were the hardest hit areas of Mason PUD 3’s service territory.

The first calls came in at 1:18 PM from the Phillips Lake area near Shelton. PUD 3 crews were in the mop-up stage of outage restoration at about 10:20 PM.

Customers may report outages any time on the outage hotline at 360-432-1533, 360-275-2833 (Belfair), or 360-861-4247 (Elma).

PUD 3 recommends unplugging sensitive appliances and electronic equipment until power has been restored for approximately 20 minutes. In addition, especially with electronics, it is important to consider using surge protection.
