Truck in Wrong Lane Hits School Bus

031016 Deer Creek Crash 2A truck in the wrong lane of Highway 3 hit a school bus near Deer Creek Thursday afternoon. There were no injuries to students on the bus.

The State Patrol reports the crash occurred just before 3 PM. A 2000 Toyota Tundra pickup was southbound in the northbound lane. A 1988  Bluebird school bus was northbound. At milepost 8 (near Deer Creek Road), the bus swerved to avoid the pickup.031016 Deer Creek Crash 4 However, the Toyota struck the bus on its passenger side. The Tundra continued southbound and hit a northbound 2009 International 4400 line truck.  The highway was blocked for two hours.

Cause of the crash is under investigation

The driver of the Toyota, James R. Wills, 77 of Ocean Shores, was transported by aid car to Mason General Hospital.

The driver of the International, John W. Donavan, 59 of Belfair, was transported to Mason General Hospital by a private vehicle.

There were 13 students on the bus and again none of them were injured. Neither was the driver of the bus, Joy L. Anderson, 59 of Shelton.
