Mason County Wrestlers Place at State

wiaa state wrestling logoFour wrestlers from Mason County placed at the State Championships Saturday. Three from Shelton and one from North Mason.

The Highclimbers’ Colton Paller placed 4th in the state among Class 3A wrestlers at 195 pounds. Saturday, Paller beat Bellevue’s Zach England and Ferndale’s Sam Cleary before losing a decision 4 to 2 to Daron Camacho from Chief Sealth who took 3rd.

The Bulldogs’ Nico Ramirez placed 5th in the state among Class 2A wrestler at 285 pounds. On the Tournament’s second day, Ramirez beat Kenny Marll from Orting before losing to Toppenish’s Johnathon Cuevas. Ramirez then knocked off Erik Lukner from Sedro-Woolley to take 5th.

Shelton’s Alec Manke placed 6th in the State among Class 3A wrestlers at 145 pounds. On the second day of the Championships, Manke beat Ferndale’s Noah Saenz before falling to Sjon Snitily from Auburn and Cooper McAuslan from Arlington.

In the girls’ portion of Mat Classic XXVIII, the Highclimbers’ Matlyne Mecham placed 6th in the State at 145 pounds. On the second day of the tournament, Mecham beat Centralia’s Sidnee Arcury before falling to Natalie Hall from Pasco and Rachel Nichols from Mt. Baker.

In the team standings, Shelton was 23rd, North Mason was 32nd, and the Lady Highclimbers were 51st.
