MMK Girls Finish 2nd in District

The Mary M. Knight girls’ basketball team finished 2nd in the Class 1B Southwest District Tournament losing to Tahola 42 to 38 in the Championship game:

The Owls were held to 14 first half points and fell behind by 15 in the third quarter. The girls from Matlock rallied to pull with in 2 points with 13.6 seconds remaining but couldn’t complete the comeback. 

The Chitwhins took the District Championship and the number one seed into the Regional Round of the State Tournament. Taholah was led by Denise Dolan’s 12 points. Marquel Waugh and Trish Charley chipped in 10 points each.

MMK was led in the loss by Mary Koonrad who scored a game-high 14 points, hitting three 3-pointers. Kaylee Sowle added 12 points. The Chitwhins held the Owls’ second leading scorer, Jaycee Valley to 6 points. Valley was 4 for 4 at the free throw line. Jadyn Davidson scored MMK’s other 6 points.

Mary M. Knight is the number two team from the Southwest District 4 and also plays in the Regional Round of the State Tournament.

The Owls play Tulalip Heritage at 2 PM Saturday, February 27 at Everett Community College.
