The Mary M. Knight basketball teams were too much for North River Friday night as the Owls wrapped up the regular season with a sweep of the Mustangs in Matlock. The boys won 46 to 30 while the girls’ score was 46 to 6.
In the boys’ game, North River hung around in the first half and used a 7-0 run to open the third quarter but was only able to get within four point before Mary M. Knight pulled away. The Owls earned a spot in the Class 1B Southwest District Tournament at play at Columbia Adventist Thursday at 6:30 PM in a loser out game.
The Lady Owls jump on the Lady Mustangs early and had a 29 to 1 lead at half. North River didn’t score in the first and third quarters. The MMK girls hit nine three-pointers in the game: three by Kaylee Sowle who led all scorers with 16 points; Jaycee Valley hit four threes, finishing with 14 points; and Mary Koonrad had the others for six points. Rounding out the scoring for Mary M. Knight, Jadyn Davidson had 6 points and Angela Diggle 4. The Owls finish the season with a 13-and-5 record, 8-and-4 in the 1B Coastal League and in third place. They travel to Columbia Adventist next Saturday for a loser out District game that tips off at 6:30 PM.
