Basketball: Shelton Girls Heading to District, Boys Fall; NM Teams Fall; MMK Girls Win

The Shelton girls’ basketball team crushed Foss Thursday night 63 to 19 and are now heading to the District Tournament:

The Highclimbers jumped out to a 19 to 2 first quarter lead and never looked back. Shelton was led by Timber Ware’s 18 points and Vanessa Kennedy’s 13 points. Shelton improved to 10-and-10 on the season, 5-and-9 in the Narrows League. With the victory, the Lady ‘Climbers take fifth place and the final spot in the West Central/Southwest District Tournament. Shelton travels to Auburn Mountainview next Thursday for a first round game.

The Shelton boys’ basketball team lost at Foss Thursday 74 to 51. The Highclimbers were led in the loss by Marshall McCullough’s 16 points and Kobe Bough’s 11 points. Shelton finishes the season with a 6-and-14 record, 3-and-11 in the Narrows League.

The North Mason boys’ basketball team ended the season with a 75 to 40 loss to Olympic. The Bulldogs finish the season 5-and-15, 1-and-11 in the Olympic League.

The North Mason girls’ basketball team lost to Olympic 48 to 34. The Lady Bulldogs finish the season 5-and-15, winless in the Olympic League.

The Mary M. Knight girls’ basketball team rallied from 12 points down in the second half and beat Quilcene 58 to 56. The Lady Owls’ Jaycee Valley scored the winning basket with six seconds left in the game. Valley finished with 25 points, 10 rebounds and 8 assists. Kaylee Sowle led the girls from Matlock in scoring with 27 points. The MMK girls are now 12-and-5 on the season. They wrap up the regular season Friday night (Feb. 5) with a Coastal League game at home against North River.
