Basketball: Shelton Girls Slip by North Thurston; Shelton Boys Lose; NM Falls to Olympic; MMK Girls Win

The Shelton girls’ basketball team slipped by North Thurston Tuesday night 54 to 53:

The Highclimbers’ Paige Johnson hit what turned out to be the game winner with 11 seconds remaining in the game. The Rams’ Jazmin McClanahan missed two free throws with a second remaining that could have won it for North Thurston or force overtime.
Shelton was led in scoring by Timber Ware’s 23 points, hitting five three-pointers (three in the third quarter). Johnson finished with 11.
The Rams had three players score in double figures in the loss. Quinlan Christian had 14 points. Brooklyn Harn scored 13. And Lauren Bailey finished with 11.
The Shelton girls improved to 9-and-10 on the season, 4-and-9 in the Narrows League. One more win and the ‘Climbers would take the final spot in the District Tournament, moving ahead of North Thurston and Mt. Tahoma. Shelton hosts the 1-and-18 Foss Falcons Thursday in a game that will be streamed live on and Hood Canal Communications’

The Shelton boys’ basketball team was held to eight points in the third quarter and lost at North Thurston 70 to 60. The Highclimbers drop to 6-and-13 on the season, 3-and-10 in the Narrows League. Shelton wraps up the season at Foss Thursday.

The North Mason boys’ basketball team lost at Kingston Tuesday 51 to 45. The Bulldogs drop to 5-and-14 on the season, 1-and-10 in the Olympic League. The boys from Belfair wrap up the season Thursday at home against Olympic.

The North Mason girls’ basketball team lost to Kingston 53 to 22. The Lady Bulldogs are now 5-and-14 on the season, winless in 11 Olympic League games. The girls from Belfair wrap of the season at Olympic Thursday.

Mary M. Knight girls’ basketball team held Lake Quinault to 12 first half points on their way to a 49 to 39 1B Coastal League victory. The Lady Owls were led by Kaylee Sowle who scored 22 points and 6 steals. Jaycee Valley added 10 points, 9 rebounds and a career high 8 assists. And Mary Koonrad chipped in 9 points to help the girls from Matlock improve to 11-and-5 on the season, 7-and-4 in league play. MMK travels to Quilcene Thursday.
