Veteran Services Explained to North Mason Community Voice

At Monday night’s North Mason Community Voice meeting, Tom Davis, Veteran Mentor Coordinator for Mason County, explained the services available to veterans in the County and how they are funded. The specific topics covered by Davis included the Veterans Assistance Program, the Veterans Mentorship Program,  Veterans Court, and the effort to purchase a facility to serve as a Veterans Homeless Shelter:

The Veterans Assistance Program is funded by a small property tax levy. This levy generates between $94,000 and $96,000 each year and Davis would like to see the levy doubled. The Veterans Mentorship Program and Veterans Court are funded by a 1/10th of a percent sales tax which is set to sunset at the end of this year. Davis hopes the Mason County Commission will continue this tax.
