Basketball: Taholah Too Much for MMK

TMMK logohe Taholah basketball teams were too much for Mary M. Knight Saturday night in Matlock. The Chitwhin boys beat the Owls 72 to 29 while the girls’ score was 69 to 41. 

The boys’ game was a one-sided contest from the opening tip as Taholah pulled away from MMK with a 21-point second quarter and taking that 39 to 17 lead at half to 56 to 27 in the third. The Chitwhins didn’t slow down in the 4th and four player finished with double-digit scoring: Terrance Jones 21, Dylan James 16, Dustin Stewart 12 and Levi Jackson 11 . The Owls were led in the loss by 14 points from Zack Thompson and 11 points from Trenton Narrance.

The Mary M. Knight girls were held to five points in the first quarter and were unable to overcome that slow start. The Chitwhins lead by as many as 12 in the second quarter and the Lady Owls made a run in the third quarter before Taholah’s Karleena Walther went on a tear scoring 10 of her 17 points in that quarter. The Chitwhins saw their lead balloon to 20 in the third and 35 in the fourth. Taholah as a team hit 10 three-pointers in the game: four by Denise Dolan who finished with a game-high 18 points and three by Charlotte Pope. Marquel Waugh added 15 points. Leading the girls from Matlock were Kaylee Sowle who scored 15 points and Jaycee Valley added 12. The Owls lost only their third game of the season and are now 9-and-3, 5-and-2 in the 1B Coastal League.

Next up for the Mary M. Knight basketball teams are home games Tuesday. The boys play Twin Valley while the girls take on Wishkah.
