The Mary M. Knight basketball teams split a girls and boys double header with Oakville Tuesday night. The Lady Owls won 45 to 39 while the boys from Matlock lost 46 to 25.
The MMK girls jumped out to a 15-0 first quarter lead only to see on the Lady Acorns cut that margin to seven at half and take a two-point lead in the third before the Owls’ Kaylee Sowle and Mary Koonrad (both freshmen) helped Mary M. Knight retake the lead. In the fourth, senior Jaycee Valley took control and secured the victory at the free throw line with help from Sowle, Koonrad, and 8th grader Angela Diggle. Valley hit 10 of 12 free throws in the game and finished with 16 points. Sowle led the Owls in scoring with 17. Koonrad hit two 3-pointers. And Diggle added 6 points as well. The Acorns were led by Kelsey Bray’s 17 points and Kelcee Theblay’s 10.
The MMK boys were held to no more than seven points in each quarter (with only four scored in the second). The Owls’ Zack Thompson led all scorers with 18 points. Oakville’s Alex Youckton scored 16 points – hitting four 3-pointers. And Devin Boyd finished with 15 points for the Acrons.
The Mary M. Knight girls are off until Friday when they host Lake Quinault. The Owl boys are off until next week.
