High School Basketball: Shelton & NM Fall; MMK Splits

The basketball teams from Shelton and North Mason lost Friday night while MMK girls win, boys lose.

The Shelton girls were held to five points in the third quarter and committed too many turnover in their 52 to 44 loss to Central Kitsap.

The Lady Highclimbers turned the ball over 24 times to help the Lady Cougars to their fifth win of the season. CK was led by Katie Thorsen’s 12 points while Starr Rodenhurst and Olivia Krog each scored 11. Shelton was led in the loss by Timber Ware who scored 14 points, Paige Johnson who add 11, and Jazmine Griffin chipped in 9. The ‘Climbers drop to 4-and-4 on the season, 1-and-3 in the Narrows League. They host North Mason Monday.

The Shelton boys’ basketball team lost at Central Kitsap Friday 78 to 52. The Highclimbers couldn’t keep up with the Cougars especially in the third quarter when Shelton was held to seven points, allowing CK to build a 24-point lead. Shelton was led in the loss by Tyler Giraldes’ 11 points. Kobe Bogh added 9. And Kyle Kimball and Marshall McCollough added 8 points each. The ‘Climbers drop to 4-and-3 on the season, 2-and-2 in the Narrows League. Shelton travels to Belfair Monday to take on cross-county rival North Mason in a game that will be streamed live on MasonWebTV.com and HCC.net.

The North Mason boys’ basketball team lost to North Kitsap 77 to 55. The Bulldogs fell behind by 12 points in the first quarter and couldn’t slow down the Vikings in the second half. The boys from Belfair drop to 4-and-4 on the season, 0-and-2 in the Olympic League. NM host Shelton Monday in a non-league game. MasonWebTV.com and Hood Canal Communications’ HCC.net will have a live video stream of this cross-county matchup.

The North Mason girls’ basketball team was held to seven first half points and lost at North Kitsap 48 to 24. The Lady Bulldogs are now 5-and-3 on the season, 0-and-2 in the Olympic League. The girls from Belfair travel to Shelton Monday.

The Mary M. Knight girls’ basketball team beat Mount Rainier Lutheran 47 to 44. The Lady Owls had to play the final minute and a half with only four player as two starters fouled out. The girls from Matlock were led by Jaycee Valley who scored 16 points (including a half court shot to end the first half), grabbed 11 rebounds and had four steal.┬áMary Koonrad added 14 points. and┬áKaylee Sowle chipped in 9 points, 6 rebounds, three steals, and two blocks. The MMK girls take their 3-and-0 record to Clallum Bay today (Saturday 12/19/15).

The Mary M. Knight boys’ basketball team lost to Mount Rainier Lutheran 50 to 35. The Owls were led in the loss by Quentin Narrance’s 17 points and Zack Thompson added 13. The boys from Matlock travel to Clallum Bay today (Saturday 12/19/15).
