Every year students at Olympic Middle School participate in a Math Challenge to help them become more fluent with their math facts. Students who earn “mastery” are entered in a drawing for a bicycle.   This year’s winner was 6th grader Jimena Tecpile.  Shelton Kiwanis Club proudly sponsors the OMS Math Challenge and provides the bicycle, as well as pencils to all participants and lunch at Roosters for the top students.

The Shelton Kiwanis Foundation also leads awards programs at Olympic Middle School, Oakland Bay Junior High, and Shelton High School. Working together with the teachers and administrators, students are recognized for behavioral and academic improvements. Additionally, the foundation awards scholarships to graduating high school students and hosts Missoula Children’s Theater to offer a live theater production experience for school aged children.

Kiwanis is a global organization of volunteers dedicated to changing the world, one community at a time. The Kiwanis Club of Shelton has been serving Mason County since 1924 with the Foundation being established in 2004. For more information on the Shelton Kiwanis Club email sheltonkiwanis@gmail.com, send mail to PO Box 477, or attend a club meeting – held every Tuesday at Xihn’s Clam & Oyster House at 12:00 PM.
