The National Weather Service has issued a high wind warning which will be in effect from 2 PM this afternoon (Thursday, December 3) to 10 PM tonight. Forecasters say south wind will increase to 25 to 40 MPH late this afternoon then switch to southwesterly before easing. Gust to 60 MPH are possible. This event is expected to be “short lived but powerful” and should be over by 7 PM. However, winds this strong can damage property, topple trees, take down power lines and cause power outages.
Along with the wind, rain is forecast with as much as a half inch expected to fall in the next 24 hours. Rain will continue into next week.
The Skokomish River is also on the rise. MasonWebTV.com and HCC.net will monitor the river and keep you updated. As of 9 AM today, the Skokomish was just under the 16.5-foot flood stage.
