The Shelton Youth Football team in the Major Junior Varsity (MJV) Division, the Climbers Red, won its first round playoff game Saturday at Highclimbers Stadium, 13 to 7 over the Bears Columbia.
After recovering a fumble on the Bears’ opening drive, the Climbers scored first, going 35 yards in five plays:
The Bears were able to drive deep into Climbers’ territory in the second quarter but were stopped by an interception. However, the Climbers turned it over on downs and the Bears were able to tie the ball game as time ran out in the first half.
In the second half, the Climbers took their third quarter opening drive 49 yards in six plays to retake the lead:
In the fourth quarter, the Bears threatened but the Climbers’ defense came up big and held on fourth down to allow the offense to run out the clock:
It looks like the Climbers Red will play the T-Birds Green next Saturday in the semi-finals.
