The League of Women Voters of Mason County and the Mason County Senior Activities Association held a candidates’ forum Tuesday afternoon at the Mason County Senior Activities Center at the Pavilion in Shelton. This forum featured the candidates running for Port of Shelton Commission, Shelton Mayor, Shelton City Commission of Finance & Accounting, and the Shelton School Board.
The candidates for the City of Shelton were grouped together with incumbent Gary Cronce being challenged by Marilyn Vogler for Shelton Mayor and incumbent Mike Olsen being challenged by Kathy McDowell for Commissioner of Finance. The candidates were asked three questions after opening statements.
The first question: How would you suggest the City address the need for a mid-range rental housing with access to local services – in particular transportation, shopping – especially for seniors but also young professionals who want to live here (Shelton) but not purchase a single-family home?
The second question: How do you propose the City obtain additional necessary funding for much needed infrastructure projects?
The final question: What makes you stand out as a candidate for Shelton City Commission?
The Shelton-Mason County Chamber of Commerce, Hood Canal Communications, and MasonWebTV.com are holding another candidates’ forum 6 PM Thursday night at the Student Union Building (SUB) at the Shelton High School. Everyone is welcome to attend and get your questions answered. The forum will be streamed live on MasonWebTV.com and Hood Canal Communications’ HCC.net.
