High School Football: MMK Can’t Catch Oakville

east-valley-waThe Mary M. Knight football team couldn’t catch Oakville Saturday as the Owls lost to the Acorns 42 to 26 in Matlock.

MMK fell behind 22-0 and didn’t get on the board until under the five-minute mark of the 2nd quarter when the Owls went 73 yards in seven plays capped by an 11-yard touchdown pass from Zack Thompson to Alec McGee making it 22-6.

Mary M. Knight then recoved the ensuing onside kick but lost the ball two plays later. Oakville fumbled the ball back to the Owls three plays after that giving MMK a short field. The Owls found the end zone for a second time when Thompson threw a 15-yard TD strike to Ian Frost and after a two-point conversion, Mary M. Knight was within 8 at the half: 22-14.

The third quarter saw Oakville extend their lead to 28-14 and Thompson go out of the game with a hand injury after stopping the Acorns on the 9-yard line.

Backup QB Quentin Narrance then took the Owls those 91 yards on 12 plays, tossing a 12-yard touchdown pass to Frost to pull MMK within 8 again (28 to 20) late in the third quarter.

Oakville responded on their next drive extending the lead back to 14 (34 to 20).

Mary M. Knight responded going 70 yards in eight plays with Narrance running it in from 12 yards out and the difference again was 8 at 34-26 with just over nine minutes to go in the game.

The Owls then forced Oakville into a three-and-out but the MMK drive ended on 4th and 9 at the 38 when the Acorns intercepted Narrance’s pass. Oakville then went 59 yards in nine plays to put the game out of reach.

Mary M. Knight was led by Branden Proffitt who rushed for 131 yards and had an interception.
Ian Frost caught four passes for 67 yards and two touchdowns.
Alec McGee had two catches for 16 yards and a touchdown.
Quentin Narrance completed 3 of 12 passes for 55 yards and a touchdown. He also ran for 54 yards and a touchdown.
Before his injury, Zack Thompson completed 4 of 8 passes for 33 yards and a touchdown. He also rushed for 68 yards.

The Owls are now 1-and-4 on the season. They host Naselle next Saturday at 1 PM.
