High School Football: Sumner Runs Away from Shelton

The Shelton football team couldn’t keep up with Sumner Friday night falling 34 to 3 at Highclimber Stadium.

The Spartans’ Connor Weddington led the way rushing for 155 yards, three touchdowns (from 9 yards, 60 yards & 8 yards), and an interception. Sumner’s Josh Riley had a 50-yard TD run. And Kolby Nickoliasen scooped up a Shelton fumble and returned it about 20 yards for the final Spartan TD.

The Highclimbers’ highlights: Cody Bragg made a 24-yard field goal which was set up by Kyle Kimball’s interception. Willy Ruiz rushed for 140 yards. And Shelton QB Tyler Giraldes threw for 80 yards.

The ‘Climbers drop to 1-and-1 on the season. They open Narrows League play next Friday against Foss at Mount Tahoma Stadium. MasonWebTV.com and HCC.net will be on hand for the game. Kickoff is 7 PM.
