The Bremerton Housing Authority (BHA) is looking for Mason County landlords welling to rent to those with Section 8 Vouchers. Monday, Sara Van Cleve, Housing Director for BHA which administers the program for Mason County, explained the program to members of the North Mason Community Voice.
Section 8 is a federally funded Housing Assistance Program for qualified low income elderly, disabled and single families. Funding comes to BHA from the United States Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) which has specific regulations and guidelines – one of which is to have reasonable rent.
Rental units also must meet Fair Market Rent (FMR) which is set by HUD:
In order for a potential renter to participate in Section 8, they must meet certain income requirements as well as passing a criminal background check:
