Alderbrook Properties and Mason County’s Love INC held its 5th Annual Golf Tournament, Dinner, Auction and Ball Drop on July 20, 2015, at the Alderbrook Golf and Yacht Club. “It was called the ‘best event ever’,” said Bill Kendrick, president of Love INC and chairperson of the event.
“We had a great time and great weather. It was beautiful,” added Kendrick, stating the tournament was successful on every level, including drawing in golfers from as far away as Seattle. “The tournament committee is especially proud of the increased community support they saw this year through title and hole sponsorships,” he said.
“We had more support from businesses in the community than in the past, and everyone had a great time. There was music, great food, a lot of fellowship, and lots of people laughing and having a great time,” said Leanna Shipp, Clearing House manager. She added that one sponsor said they support this event because their family always has a great time, and because all of the money goes to help people in Mason County. “This event is great for golfers and non-golfers alike, since there is plenty to do for those who don’t golf. They can have dinner, participate in the auction or watch the ball drop, which is pretty exciting,” she said.
Alderbrook staff did the precise measuring and reported the winning balls in the Golf Ball Drop, sponsored by Our Community Credit Union, Olympic Air, and The Medicine Shoppe. This year’s top winner was Don Gillis of Gillis Auto Center (also a sponsor of the tournament’s Hole-in-One Car Prize). He won $1,000, but donated $500 back to Love INC.
“What a blessing it is to see our sponsors out there on the field participating as golfers, too,” said Shipp.
Over 30 volunteers worked before and during the event to bring it all together. “The number of volunteer hours that go into making this event successful is amazing,” Shipp said, adding that the entire community, including churches and businesses, work together to bring hope to Mason County residents through the proceeds of the tournament.
“Our community embraces this event because we know the monies raised stay right here in Mason County, and it’s a wonderful event for the entire family! We had individuals, families, and teens, as well as men’s and women’s teams this year. It’s an event for everyone,” said Shipp.
According to Board Vice President Virginia J. McCarty, Love INC tries to help anyone in Mason County who is in need, and willing to improve their situation. “We help everyone, no matter their gender, religion, or sexual orientation. We are about loving people and helping them make a better life.”
Currently, Love INC is raising funds for the purchase of a truck to haul and deliver furniture and firewood to Love INC clients. Financial donations for other needs are also appreciated. For more information, or to make a donation, contact Love INC at (360) 462-8653.
