NM Wrestling wins; NM & Shelton Hoops Lose

The North Mason wrestling team beat Klahowya 47 to 27 Wednesday night. The Bulldogs took eight weight classes with John Day, Brian McCarty and Tommy Marsh winning by pin. The boys from Belfair host Kingston tonight (Thursday, Jan. 26, 2012).


A second half melt down kept the North Mason girls basketball team winless in the Olympic League as the Bulldogs fell to Sequim 44 to 30.

The girls from Belfair had a one-point halftime lead but the Wolves took advantage of Bulldog turnovers and took control of the game going up ten after three quarters. Sequim extended its lead to 24 at one point in the fourth riding the second half play of sophomore forward Alexas Besand’s 17 points – 11 in the third quarter.

North Mason was led in scoring by Mikaela Shumaker who had eight. The Wolves improved to 5-and-11 on the season, 3-and-9 in the Olympic League. The Bulldogs drop to 2-and-14 overall, 0-and-12 in League play. North Mason is off until next Tuesday when they host Port Townsend.

The Sequim boys’ basketball team jumped on North Mason early and the Wolves beat the Bulldogs 64 to 37 Wednesday night. Sequim was led by Gabe Carter’s 24 points and Jayson Brocklesby’s 15. The Wolves held the boys from Belfair to single digit scoring in the first, third and fourth quarters. North Mason was led by Anthony Price who scored 12 points. Sequim maintained second place in the Olympic League just behind Kingston with a 9-and-3 league mark, 12-and-4 overall. They host North Kitsap Friday. The Bulldogs drop to 1-and-15 on the season, 0-and-12 in Olympic League play. They travel to Port Townsend next Tuesday.

Gig Harbor had little trouble with Shelton Wednesday night as both the girls’ and boys’ teams were victorious. The Lady Tides took out the Highclimbers 48 to 30 while the boys won by 40: 76 to 36. Shelton’s leading scorers in the losses were Sean Gorman who had 10 points for the boys and Allison Hunter who score 7 for the girls. Shelton plays Stadium Friday. The girls take their 1-and-13 record on the road while the boys, at 2-and-13, are in the Mini Dome. Both Shelton teams are 0-and-8 in the Narrows League.
