The Mason County PUD No. 3 is considering modernizing its meter reading by installing equipment to remotely read electricity meters. PUD 3 staff briefed the PUD 3 Commissioners on the grid modernization project Tuesday by summarizing a five-page white paper that analysed the cost and benefits of installing this radio technology. PUD Manager Annette Creekpaum explained the pros and cons of the project:

Although no official decision has been made, the PUD did receive bids on the project and has a contractor in mind:
If the PUD Commissioners decide to go forward with the modernization, the project would take up to two years to complete. However, the PUD would start with a test area:
