Scuba Diving Accident In Hoodsport

On Sunday March 15, 2015 at approximately 10:41 AM, MACECOM 911 Dispatch received a call that a novice scuba diver was pulled from the waters of the Hood Canal in the area of the 23,800 block of N. US Hwy. 101, Hoodsport, that she was unconscious, that CPR was started and that she is now breathing on her own.

Sheriff’s Office Deputies, Fire Rescue/Aid and EMS responded to the scene where a group of scuba divers had all been enjoying a day of underwater diving.  According to fellow divers during their ascent from 72’, the accident victim, a 47 year old female from Portland, OR, used hand signals around the 35’ depth that something was wrong and they needed to surface.

While waiting for a helicopter life flight, paramedics stated that they were able to get the woman to a state of consciousness in the ambulance at Sanderson Field.  The woman was then flown to Harbor View Medical Center in Seattle.

Investigating Deputies observed all of the woman’s scuba diving gear, did not see any signs of foul play and determined that it was a diving accident.

Today, Monday March 16, 2015, the woman identified as Colette Abrahamson was discharged from Harbor View Medical Center.
