In 2014, Mason County’s “Love in the Name of Christ” (Love INC), saw an increase in the provision of services of 57 percent for adults, 44 percent for children, and a 71 percent increase overall in families served from 2013, with 1,118 referrals provided to churches and other agencies within Mason County.
Thanks to community support, service increases were accompanied by a 78 percent increase in volunteer hours provided, with an in-kind value of $125,498.39. This number reflects a total of 5,531 volunteer hours given over the course of 2014. Volunteers serve in Love INC’s Clearinghouse, through gap ministries and during fundraising activities.
Love INC provides services to impoverished and low income individuals throughout Mason County through the coordination of 20 church partners, and other community relief organizations, by providing a Clearinghouse for needed services. Clients seeking assistance are screened through an interview intake process, and once need is verified, Love INC works with partners to meet those needs.
“Without community partners, volunteers, and financial supporters who understand and support the mission of Love INC, we could not exist. We rely on this support and are really grateful for it,” said Clearinghouse Manager, Leanna Shipp.
Love INC works to build relationships with their clients to help them move forward in life, rather just providing handouts, she said. This is done through “gap ministry” services such as the provision of firewood, laundry cards, furniture, blankets, household items ,job finding assistance, and help locating shelter.
