The Shelton football team won the 3rd Mason County Cup Friday 28 to 21 over North Mason. After a scoreless first quarter, the Highclimbers took advantage of two Bulldog fumbles to take a 14-0 lead before the boys from Belfair were able to get on the board with two seconds remaining in the first half.
The third quarter saw both teams score but North Mason was able to tie the game in the fourth, taking advantage of critical penalties before Shelton regained the lead and the ‘Climber defense stopped the Bulldogs late.
Shelton was led as expected by Jake Henry’s 153 yards rushing and one touchdown. The Highclimbers’ Colton Paller returned a kickoff 78 yards for a touchdown; Forrest Hunter had a 6-yard TD run and a 2-point conversion; and Brian Nault scored on a 5-yard run.
North Mason was led by Daniel Burggraff who caught two touchdown passes from Matt Becker. And Tyler Grewell had a 5-yard TD run with Becker scoring the 2-point conversion.
Next week, the 1-and-0 Shelton Highclimbers travel to Sumner (1-and-0) while the 0-and-1 North Mason Bulldogs host Elma (1-and-0).
