The City of Shelton will be accepting applications for tourism funding during the month of August. The City currently collects a four percent tax on Lodging that is to be used for either tourism events or tourism-related facilities. Tourism promotion is defined as activities designed to increase tourism, including but not limited to advertising, publicizing, or otherwise distributing information for the purpose of attracting and welcoming tourists; developing strategies to expand tourism; operating tourism promotion agencies; and funding marketing of special events and festivals designed to attract tourists. Tourism related facility means real or tangible personal property with a usable life of three or more years, or constructed with volunteer labor, and used to support tourism, performing arts, or to accommodate tourist activities. Lodging tax funds cannot be spent on capital expenditures for tourism-related facilities owned by non-profit organizations. However, lodging tax funds may be used for operating expenditures. Applications will be accepted between August 1 and August 31, 2014. Once all applications are received, they will be forwarded to the City of Shelton Lodging Tax Advisory Committee (LTAC) for review. The LTAC will then make a recommendation to the City Commission during the 2015 Budget process. Applications are available on the City’s web site at www.ci.shelton.wa.us or at the Customer Service Kiosk located in the Shelton Civic Center at 525 West Cota Street, Shelton, WA, 98584.
