A brush fire destroyed a truck and burned about three acres Wednesday afternoon in the Deer Creek area.
According to Central Mason Fire & EMS, crews were toned for a large brush fire off Highway 3 across from the Deer Creek Store about 2:30 PM. Upon arrival, firefighters found a 2-3 acre grass fire in the hay field. Crews had difficulty gaining access to the fire. The winds were blowing the fire toward the north and creating heavy smoke and low visibility on Highway 3. It took about two hours for crews to fully extinguish the fire. A 2011 Chevrolet pickup truck was completely destroyed by the fire. The pickup was being used to comb the grass for bailing. The origin of the fire in still under investigation. Also responding to this brush fire were Mason County Fire Districts 2, 3, 4, 11, 12, 13 and 18, three unit from the State Department of Natural Resourse, the Washington State Patrol and the Mason County Sheriff’s Office.
