The Port of Shelton Commission held a public hearing Tuesday on the surplus of timber at Sanderson Field. The Port is considering harvesting timber from 120 acres west of the decommissioned runway (between the airport and the State Patrol’s track) and from 17 acres south east of the Fairgrounds. The Port is looking to have more cash on hand in order to construct a building if one of three potential companies agrees to locate on Port property in the area proposed to be logged. Seven people testified during the hearing with six opposed to the harvest.
No action was taken Tuesday and the hearing was continued until September 17, 2013. The Port is accepting written comments on the harvest. Below is a map showing the areas proposed to be harvested.
